Hearing Guy Mott narrate this heartrending stream-of-consciousness novel is like witnessing Ted Hughes, the poet himself, rising from the dead and disclosing his version of his legendary marriage to American poet Sylvia Plath. Mott's Ted speaks in a clear English accent, which shows traces of Ted's Yorkshire upbringing. The tone is confessional. The mood evoked is one of resignation; it's as if the suicide that so tragically ended Plath's life were inevitable. The author draws on journals, poetry collections, and letters in her account of this tragic tempestuous marriage. Sylvia Plath is a feminist icon and is perceived by many to have been the victim of a self-centered husband, but in this production we examine the iconic couple from Hughes's point of view.
